Vortragsreihe Theater in der Schule: „Restoration Comedy“ – Prof. Dr. Monika Fludernik

The lecture will introduce the audience to the Restoration comedy, also called comedy of manners, and will look at the theatrical landscape in Britain after the Puritan interregnum and the return of the Stuart monarch (‘restoration’). It will put the drama of this period into the context of the history of the British stage in the seventeenth century, glancing also at proponents of more serious genres of drama, and will focus on the most popular subjects, stock characters and satiric intentions of the plays.

Monika Fludernik is Professor emer. of English literature at the University of Freiburg English Department. Throughout her career she has taught drama from different periods, her favourite courses being Early Modern Drama (outside Shakespeare), Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Drama as well as surveys on playwrights from Shaw to O’Neill and seminars on late twentieth-century absurd, political and postmodernist drama.

In der Vortragsreihe „Theater in der Schule“ tragen Spezialist*innen aus verschiedenen philologischen Fächern, Didaktiker*innen und Praktiker*innen in 12 Vorträgen zu einer Vielfalt von Anregungen bei.

Schwerpunkte liegen auf Strategien und Methoden der Umsetzung in die (schulische) Praxis.

Zielgruppe sind neben Studierenden auch Lehrkräfte mit Interesse am Oberstufen-Wahlpflichtfach „Literatur und Theater“.
